September 07 meet

We hope you have had a good summer and have had chance to fly despite the rather wet weather. To mark the end of the summer and the onset of the *fingers crossed* windy autumn season Fraisthorpe Flyers are having a meet-up weekend on Friday 28th till Sunday 30th September. The club has secured the use of the field at the beach and is offering camping opportunities to all its members! You will be able to camp on the field from 7pm on the Friday. There will be a small flat rate fee for the weekend of £5 per person, a bargain considering fuel costs if you went home each night. Tents are welcome but if you would like to bring a caravan or motor home please contact the club by email or by phone on 079 585 19849 and we will approach the farmer with your query.

Low tide is around 1 o’clock and with it being an extra low spring tide, you will have many hours available to kite. Even if you don’t have much kiting experience, do not worry, we will have a designated area for you to practice your skills. Marshalls are available all day to help with tangles (if you ask nicely!) and keeping the beach running smoothly.

As well as the usual flying, there will be lots of alternative things to do should the wind drop. Kiting clothing manufacturer Monkey Bum clothing will be bringing along some of their products for you to try on before you buy. There will also be a variety of circus toys to play with during the day at the club tent including diablo, juggling balls and devil sticks.

In the evenings there will be lots of different things which for the moment are remaining secret! For the adults who would like a drink or two (to drink responsibly), there will be a game called Shot Car Racing. We’ll just say that if you would like to play this game you will need find a suitable toy car and attach a shot glass (preferably plastic) on top and bring your own ‘fuel’ (alcohol/fruit juice etc). The only tip we will give you is that the faster the car is, the more likely you are to win! If you have a game that you would like the club to play please feel free to bring along any props etc.

If you would like to bring your own bbq please remember to bring some rocks/bricks to raise it off the grass and prevent scorching. The club tent will be up and running with lighting and will be a good place to have a chat to other club members and relax after a long day kiting.

Finally, the club has appointed secret spies to find three lucky club members to win prizes which have been donated by Action Pact in Harrogate and Anti-Gravity in York. Unfortunately as the spies are secret, so too are the prize titles. So, just remember to have fun and enjoy yourself. The only clue we will give is that the prizes are not for best ‘backloop kiteloop handlespass transition’ or ‘fastest speed run’, we aren’t all Aaron Hadlow or Graham Steel!

If you would like to come to this event all you need to do is bring yourself and your valid insurance card. If your insurance has run out there are forms available on the day and you can apply and be covered instantly. Individual membership to the BPKA (formerly the BBC) is £15 per year. If you need to reapply please bring a cheque book/postal order. No pre-booking is required for this event, just turn up, pay and pitch your tent, then sit back and enjoy the weekend. When you arrive simply book-in at the club tent or look for someone in a fluorescent vest.

We look forward to seeing you there!

Fly safe, have fun.
